For as long as I can remember mine has been a 1969 GTO Judge in carousel red of course. I really have affection for all muscle cars but the GTO tops my list, what's yours?

Om, mother fucking, nom nom nom

1969 Dodge Charger because it had the best front and it was the first year they moved from the round taillights. (EDIT: better photo now)

1963 Corvette.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:29 |

Definitely my favorite Corvette.

Like this?
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:30 |

Good choice, bad image.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:31 |

I keep hoping they do an Anniversary or something edition C7 with the split window. Not exactly the same but I love that 63 rear window.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:31 |
|
Can't go wrong with a Hemi Cuda, great choice. I love that color too.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:33 |

1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 351. * drools uncontrollably * It's all time favourite muscle car. I can afford to buy one of these, but I don't need it.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:34 |
|
They really should, it would certainly fit as it's inspired by the 63-67 shape. I wonder if they could do it without some government regulation ruining it.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:34 |
|
Don't know if its number 1 on the list, but its up there.
Grabber Green 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator with the 428 Cobra Jet. Its like a Boss 302, but in a suit.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:36 |
|
Cougars are way under appreciated. I know it's hard to pick just one.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:36 |

I hate hotlink protection!!!!!!!
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:39 |

Oh bit there are SO MANY good ones.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:40 |
|
Fixed up the pic. A C2 Corvette Stingray with the split window would be one of my ultimate top cars but I always thought of them as a sports car rather than a muscle car. Some of my other favorites would have to be a '68 Camaro, '69 Mustang Fastback, '70 Barracuda... the list goes on. So many great cars from that period.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:42 |
|
I know it's really hard to pick just one. There are quite a few that are more badass than the GTO but it's always been my favorite.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:42 |
|
Unfortunately for me, the market is starting to see their value. That one pictured in my post just sold last week for $80k. No where near to what the corresponding Mustang would go for, but still a ton.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:42 |
|
I swear, 1969 was the best year for mustangs. So perfect. There is an awesome Boss 429 in red that frequents a nearby racetrack and man is that car sexy!
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:43 |
|
'69 Mach 1
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:44 |
|
You just named most of my favorites too!
And yes, the C2 is not 100% a "muscle" car, I just love it too much to not go with it.
I also have an unhealthy love for the AMC Javelin.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:45 |

I've noticed that too, people are starting to realize these are the "gentleman's" Mustang. A few years ago they were almost completely ignored.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:45 |

My thoughts exactly.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:47 |

I gotta throw a corvette photo in then!
My dad actually used to race AMXes back in the day. I always thought they were cool cars!

Very good choices, This is a great question because they're are no wrong answers.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 18:52 |

I like the 78 Trans Am, with T-tops. Pontiac 400, 4-speed, and the cool front end. Even though 77 had the same design and drivetrain, its T-tops were much smaller. The 78-81 Camaro Z28 would also suffice.
I also like the 64-66 Barracuda.
My first car was almost a 76 Deville, 500-cubic inch engine. Even though there was no way I could handle that boat in the narrow-ass city streets nor could I afford the gas like 8 mpg, I still miss it and still regret not buying it. If I ever get the chance, I'm going to look for a sunroof-equipped one (the one I passed on lacked that feature, but at the time I didn't care because when you're 17, *any* car is a good car!) I also dig the 70s Fleetwood limo with the weird jump seat in the middle.

The body of a sportscar with the heart of a muscle car.
Alternatively:
Third gen Falcon coupes are sexy as balls too. But really, there are so many choices it's almost impossible to pick a favorite.

It really is, I should have done like a Top 5 Muscle car garage. Really though is 5 even enough.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:08 |

Probably not. :P
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:08 |

More exotic than muscle, but there are no wrong answers here.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:09 |
|
That's like choosing between my left and right leg, it's pointless. But here are a couple choices:
For the record I don't really consider cars like Corvettes or Cobras muscle cars
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:10 |
|
Has muscle car looks and a V8, nothing out of place here.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:11 |
|
2 very good choices. I agree Cobra's and Corvette's don't fit the traditional meaning.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:15 |
|
Yeah but you couldn't get it the US so it really didn't compete with Muscle cars. They are great looking cars and certainly a great choice for a want list.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:17 |
|
second choice.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:18 |
|
Oh yeah, that would work.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:21 |
|
I can afford to buy one of these
That's when I stopped reading and started typing to tell you to go buy one.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:21 |

The most masculine car in the world. Hell, even the bad guys in Bullitt drove one
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:26 |
|
I figured you'd pick a Firebird of some sorts. Perhaps a 69 Trans Am. Great choice with the Charger though it's in my top 5.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:42 |
|
Firebirds are my obtainable dream muscle cars, I can't see myself buying a '68 charger for less than $10,000.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:48 |
|
In my top 5 for sure.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 19:58 |
|
... or...
![]() 01/26/2014 at 20:05 |
|
I can't decide. But I'll give you some of what's in my top 5.
Most know I am unabashedly a Mopar shill.
'69 Hemi Charger Daytona.
'70 Challenger R/T Rag. Plum Crazy. Shaker Hood, 440 Six Pack.
'68 Hurst Hemi Dart. L023 code.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 20:09 |
|
I've been waiting for someone to pick a Wing car. I'd put the Daytona and/or Superbird in my top 5 as well.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 20:35 |
|
1969 GTO Judge isn't a bad choice. But if we are in wish mode I'd have to go with a Yenko Camaro.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 20:45 |
|
70 Camaro hasn't been called yet...
![]() 01/26/2014 at 21:20 |

Shit. Kinja'ed the Dart pic. Let me try again....
![]() 01/26/2014 at 21:23 |
|
Hurst/Olds 442 or "the H/O"
mmm... DAT 455
![]() 01/26/2014 at 21:36 |
|
Yeah, that's a complete badass right there.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 21:40 |
|
Love these, right before the government destroyed front end styling with their 5-mph bumper mandate. I think I like the 70's better than the 69's tough call though.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 21:42 |
|
First bit of AMC love there, nice choice.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 22:00 |
|
Or really any real, documented COPO 427 for that matter, they are all worth big bucks. I saw a "real" Yenko in Daytona Beach in the late 90's it was a sweet car claimed original by the owner but you never know.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 22:58 |
|
I'll have an AMX, please. Please?
![]() 01/26/2014 at 23:12 |

Raises a good point. I would want go raging around with mine. So I'd just as soon have a clone. I couldn't really bring myself to beat on a real one at the strip or put any serious miles on it for that matter.
![]() 01/26/2014 at 23:14 |
|
... and yes any 427 COPO with a M21 or M22 would do it for me.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 00:08 |
|
Very true, once you get to a certain point you can't enjoy the car past looking at it. I'd want something I could enjoy driving and take to shows and meetups without having to trailer it in and rope it off.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 04:55 |
|
I like the '71 Challenger in the same color with the 426 best of every car ever myself.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 05:32 |
|
There are too many for me to choose one. Stingray, Yenko, Cuda, Superbird, Riviera. Can't choose. But I am absolutely shocked that nobody has mentioned the El Camino. Did I accidentally wander away from Oppo? Where am I? Who are you people?
![]() 01/27/2014 at 10:00 |
|
I figured it would show up much sooner also.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 14:27 |

Well, good for you. I don't care much about Mustangs but with a few exceptions (Mach 1, Mustang concepts, and the new 2015 Mustang).
![]() 01/27/2014 at 14:30 |
|
And let it sit and collect dust in our garage? No, I don't think so. Petrolheads won't approve of this.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 14:34 |

DD it.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 14:53 |

We have a kid now, and the Mustang is too unsafe. The weather conditions aren't ideal for muscle cars over here.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 15:11 |
|
Damn, oh well. Hopefully all of these cars are in giving homes.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 16:26 |
|
Oh yes, there's a lot of vintage Mustang clubs in weather friendly areas like Auckland, CHCH, and Invercargill. It's likely all Mach 1's already have a good, caring home. :)
![]() 01/27/2014 at 17:19 |

442
![]() 01/27/2014 at 18:12 |

Probably the Cougar. As another Oppo put it, it's like a Mustang in a suit.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 18:15 |

One or both of those would definitely work.
![]() 01/27/2014 at 20:15 |

'72 Challenger
'64 Impala

If money were no object?
The ALL OF THEM!.....and a building to keep and work on them in too of course.
Telling my age here, but I grew up in the era most of these were new and got to ogle them first hand and in the flesh. I also managed to wheedle rides at least in most of them. It was a whirlwind of horsepower, burnt rubber and high octane gasoline that I will never forget and the desire to won them all is just natural after that.
I personally owned a, 70 Torino 429 CJ/C6 Auto, 69 Mustang GT 351W/4speed, 73 Mach I 351C/4speed, 68 Torino with a transplanted 351C Boss engine & 4speed....shit I'm going to cry now because I wasn't smart enough/wealthy enough to keep them all.
My dream Muscle Car has always been the 69 Boss 429 Mustang with the Nascar engine option, but I also pine away for a 427 SC Cobra.
I once drag raced a 69 Dodge Charger 440 Six Pack, auto trans with the 73 Mach I, and managed to beat him 2 out of 3 runs. Man those WERE the days.
![]() 01/28/2014 at 12:57 |
|
Yeah those Boss 429's are sweet. I was born in the 70's so once I was old enough to know better, my brother always had me on the lookout for muscle cars, he is 6 years older and taught me all about them. By the time I was 6 or 8 I could correctly identify passing cars. Some of my brothers friends had really great cars, Mustangs, Chevelles, one 442, and a couple Camaros. His first car was a 79 Trans Am that was at least 10 years newer than all his buddies had.

I'm late to the party but the obvious answer is Montego (mine):
The not so obvious answer for me is...UPGRADED MONTEGO:

Very nice, what's in yours?
![]() 01/28/2014 at 14:28 |

Ford 302 (5.0) V8. I upgraded the 2 barrel to a 4 barrel Holley on top of an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. With that I ripped off the boring stock single exhaust for dual super 44 flowmasters. It sounds glorious now (I've been asked if it's a big block lol). It's unbelievable the kind of power increase I've gotten from just those 3 pieces.
Here, give your ears some enjoyment (new fun sounds start at about 45 seconds):
![]() 01/28/2014 at 15:52 |
|
Sounds great, like a completely different car. I bet you were thrilled the first time you fired it up with the new exhaust.
![]() 01/28/2014 at 16:05 |
|
I couldn't take the smile off my face. I really couldn't. I also hadn't driven it much with the carb/intake upgrades when i put it in the shop for the exhaust. I took it on it's first real run after the exhaust went on and when I stomped the pedal, I literally yelled out with how awesome it is.
It's just so...raw.

I love it. A true car lover. It's amazing how happy a car ride can make you when you're in something inspiring.

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. Purple. Dreamed about it since I was a high school student and one tantalized me till somebody else got it.

The Mule or some type of derivative. Fuck your points ignition, bias ply tires, narrow wheels, external rail 4 speeds, manual drum brakes and manual steering. When I want to beat my car within an inch of its life I don't want it to fight me back.

They are still out there, but you are right - the market is changing for these relatively-rare cars.
